An 18th Century Miniature painting from the Deccan Sultanate or Mughal India. In the lower half of the painting a subject, seated on a horse, is adorned in a an orange tunic and orange boots and holds a red quran in his left hand and stirrups in the right. The horse, proportionately oversized, is filled with calligraphic prose written in gold leaf and of Tughra script. He rides gallantly through a sea of gold leaf
flowers submersed within a green field. A small numeric inscription is
visible to the left of the right hind leg of the horse. Immediately above the tugrah is a floral cartouche and above that nine lines of
neat nasta'liq script. On the reverse side 27 lines of neat nasta'liq
script. The painting measures L-17" x W-9.5" and the horse/prince portrait measures L - 8" x W - 9".
